Definition

CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas) is Brazil’s individual taxpayer identification number, issued by the Brazilian government to residents and citizens.

In cross-border ecommerce, CPF is commonly used to verify the identity of package recipients and process imported goods.

What It Means in Dropshipping

For dropshipping stores shipping to Brazil, collecting a customer’s CPF is often necessary to ensure successful delivery.

Brazilian customs authorities and logistics providers frequently require a valid CPF to process imports, verify the recipient, and calculate applicable duties or taxes.

Without a CPF, shipments may experience:

  • Customs delays
  • Delivery failures
  • Returned packages
  • Additional verification requests

As a result, many ecommerce stores selling to Brazil include a CPF field during checkout.

Example

A customer in Rio de Janeiro places an order with a dropshipping store.

During checkout, the customer enters their CPF number. The supplier includes this information in the shipping documents, allowing Brazilian customs to identify the recipient and process the shipment.

If the CPF is missing or incorrect, the package may be delayed or returned.

Why It Matters

CPF is an important requirement for many international shipments entering Brazil.

For dropshipping businesses targeting Brazilian customers, collecting CPF information can help reduce delivery issues, improve customs clearance, and create a smoother customer experience.
